About the Item

Scott likes to think of his work as what it might look like if an overly observant 5 year old kid from New Jersey left hieroglyphics for alien life forms to discover. A mixture of Sci-Fi, National Geographic, and memories of childhood cartoons, scenarios are created that evolve in the paintings. He refers to himself as a monster painter, however, some like to think of his “monsters” as joyous and whimsical. Other creatures are ghostly and alien. Scott’s work is immediately recognizable. His figures pop out from the canvas, sometimes defying the viewer to challenge them and other times seemingly stunned and surprised. The creatures interact in ways that are sometimes shocking and disturbing, but never boring. What we are left with is a universe where life forms converge.

Mobility, oil painting, in the Abstract Expressionism style
Located in Houston, TX
Mobility allows the viewer to see each separate object in the painting. Objects such as figures, animals and trees are isolated in his images, which allow the viewer to see each separate form from a different angle of vision. His work is characterized by an aerial perspective that is often found in naive or primitive art. Each painting is a renewal of his pursuit to visually define Western man: who we are, what I am? His great-grandfather was a full-blooded Cherokee, his grandmother a half-breed Shawnee. His father was a first generation American, a Swede. He is intrigued with the real history of America and He pursued this research with a passion and continually included his findings in my paintings. Greg Benson...
