About the Item
About Painting: My husband and I photographed this gorgeous lady in 2018 when we took a trip to Maranello, Italy to visit Ferrari. It was such a treat to see this amazing vehicle that Michael Schumacher drove throughout the Formula One season. I took a few liberties with the background as my muse was in a museum. I wanted to paint the background with my fingers/palms as I often do with abstract areas. This gives the viewer a place to rest their eyes to then come back to take in all the details of the car. Such a joy to create.
During a Make-A-Wish charity event in October 2024 (for the US Grand Prix in Austin), I teamed up with F1 announcer, Will Buxton, for the event. I brought this painting with me to show Will, and quickly had a photo taken of us both with it.
Shannon "Shan" Fannin (b. 1969) is an American artist known for her dynamic portrayals of vehicles. Working in acrylics, she combines photorealism with abstract elements, often using her hands and brushes to create textured, energetic compositions. Fannin travels extensively to photograph vehicles and engage with their owners, enriching her creative process. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions across the United States and has garnered numerous awards, including international recognition. Fannin's paintings have been displayed in Times Square, included in the Lunar Codex Moon project, been featured on television, and celebrated in art, automotive, and motorcycle publications internationally. Her work is found in collections throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.
Artist Statement:
Vehicles are more than just machines that get us around. They are wheeled expressions of our individuality. I try to capture that in my paintings.
I paint vehicles from the past, and ones that people dream of driving someday. The best part is when someone connects with my art, sharing their own car stories and dreams. That's when I know I've done a good job.

Shan Fannin
Shannon "Shan" Fannin (b. 1969) specializes in contemporary vehicle portraiture, creating dynamic acrylic compositions that capture both mechanical precision and emotional resonance. A California native who initially trained in special education art instruction, Fannin spent 25 years in marketing and business before returning to artistic practice in her forties. Her automotive focus developed organically through participation in classic car culture, leading to professional recognition within a year of resuming her art career. Fannin works exclusively in acrylics, often on canvases measuring up to six feet in length. Her technique combines detailed brushwork with gestural hand-painting, creating textured surfaces that emphasize reflection and movement. The artist travels internationally to photograph subjects and interview owners, incorporating these personal narratives into works that explore vehicles as symbols of aspiration and identity. Her paintings have garnered awards at national and international exhibitions and have been featured in automotive and fine art publications worldwide. Collections include works held across three continents. Based in Austin, Texas, Fannin is represented by select galleries across the United States including Abend Gallery.
