Steve Alan Kaufman (December 29, 1960 - February 12, 2010) was a true great American pop artist and an assistant to Andy Warhol, who gave Steve Kaufman the nickname "SAK" using the initials of Steve's name. He worked at Andy Warhol’s Factory until 1989, when he opened his own studio in New York. Steve Kaufman in his day-to-day life embodied and delivered the true American pop art experience. He painted iconic people as Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis Presley, and John F. Kennedy, historical figures such as Beethoven, Mozart or Shakespeare, and products significant in our daily lives. He was an artistic journalist who commented on both history and current events with his art. Steve Kaufman advanced the use of the silkscreen process, and was most widely recognized for his use of vivid colours and hand embellishment. Steve was very prolific - he would paint on just about anything! Today, Kaufman’s work is included in many major collections including the Amsterdam Museum, the Andy Warhol Foundation, and the Saatchi Collection. He also founded a charity, Give Kids A Break.

Steven Alan Kaufman was an American pop artist, fine artist, sculptor, stained glass artist, filmmaker, photographer and humanitarian. His entry into the world of serious pop art began in his teens when he became an assistant to Andy Warhol at The Factory studio, who nicknamed him "SAK".
