A Great Battlefield - A Lone Soldier Sanding in an Open Field, Oil on Linen
Located in Chicago, IL
A solitary figure, head bowed, stands in a field in contemplation of what has just taken place or what is about to take place. "A Great Battlefield" channels the spirit of Winslow Homer's war imagery, bringing it into the contemporary world, asking us to contemplate the decisions forced to be made in wartime, some of which will never leave us. As for the paintings, William uses materials and methods of the Civil War era. The linen on which he paints was in use at that time as well as the tubed oil paints. He is one of the few artists who tacks his canvas to the stretchers using similar tacks that would have been used by Winslow Homer. While he leaves the works unframed for this reason, the artwork could certainly be framed. This piece is unframed. Please contact the gallery for framing options. A Great Battlefield oil on linen 60h x 35w in 152.40h x 88.90w cm WIL029 Known for his highly charged depictions of Civil War reenactments, William Blake’s powerful paintings show the recursive bodies of reenactors as they gesture across time. Participating in over 40 reenactment events, Blake currently interprets as the artist-correspondent Winslow Homer at these battle reenactments. He immerses himself in the materiality of his own obsession by constructing period clothes, camping on battlefields, and documenting the reenactment similar to Homer’s documentation of the authentic war. The figures in the paintings reverberate the past with respect and with a desire to educate, humble, and play. With each annual iteration of American Civil War reenactments, the reanimation of the past encourages a review of history and aids in its continuous revision. For his second exhibition with Gallery Victor Armendariz, William Blake presents A Great Battlefield, a collection of new paintings depicting US Marines...

He was Rockwell's studiomate and mentor and actually helped Rockwell to get his first cover at The Saturday Evening Post. Forsythe was also friends with Teddy Roosevelt, who was the first President to drive a car. "The Race is On" 1921 depicts Teddy Roosevelt racing a cowpoke on horseback. This is a phenomenal painting in many respects - historical, western, presidential, car. Roosevelt is a major collector's market. The car is a Red Model T Roadster as well. It also contains great action and drama - and beautifully rendered, as good if not better than any WR Leigh...

Speak Up
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
In "Speak Up," Bright Toh employs unconventional imagery by merging the head of a cow with a human body. This unexpected combination challenges our preconceived notions and encourages us to look beyond the surface, prompting a deeper exploration of the artwork's underlying message. The cow, often associated with docility and domesticity, takes on a new meaning as it becomes a vessel for the human form, suggesting that even the most unexpected individuals possess the potential for individual expression. The artwork's bright and lively color palette serves as a visual feast for the eyes. Bold hues, such as vibrant blues, fiery red, and vivid greens, infuse the composition with energy and captivate the viewer's attention. The oversized raincoat worn by the figure adds an element of whimsy and intrigue, symbolizing protection and shelter from external influences. It also serves as a metaphorical cloak, representing the need for individuals to find their unique voices and confidently express their ideas and opinions. "Speak Up" serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of individual expression in our society. In a world often characterized by conformity and the suppression of diverse viewpoints, the artwork encourages viewers to embrace their unique perspectives and have the courage to speak up. It celebrates the value of authenticity and reminds us that every individual has a story to tell, a voice to be heard, and ideas that can shape the world around us. Through the fusion of a cow head and a human body, "Speak Up" challenges the traditional notion of what is considered "normal" or acceptable. The artwork serves as a call to question societal norms and encourages viewers to challenge the status quo, promoting a culture of inclusivity and acceptance. It invites us to reconsider the limitations we impose on ourselves and others, reminding us that diversity and individuality should be celebrated rather than suppressed. Bright Toh's artwork, "Speak Up," stands as a vibrant and thought-provoking testament to the power of individual expression. Through the striking fusion of a cow head and a human body, the artwork challenges conventional wisdom and calls for a celebration of authenticity and diversity. By embracing our unique voices and perspectives, we contribute to a richer and more vibrant society. "Speak Up" serves as a reminder to break free from the constraints of conformity and find the courage to express our true selves, amplifying the power of our individuality in the world. Shipping Procedure Ships in a well-protected tube from Nigeria This work is unique, not a print or other type of copy. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity (Issued by the Gallery) About Artist Born on the 6th of August 1994 in Buea, Bright Toh holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Buea. Notwithstanding his Engineering academic background, Toh is a self-taught visual artist. The Race
By William John Hennessy
Located in New York, NY
William John Hennessy was born in Ireland. He came to America in 1849 with his mother and brother a year after his father had fled their homeland after taking part in the unsuccessful Young Ireland Party uprising. The Hennessys settled in New York, and when young William came of age, he decided upon a career as an artist. At the age of fifteen, he enrolled at the National Academy of Design, where he learned to draw from the antique, and the following year he was granted admission to the Academy’s life-drawing class. Hennessy first exhibited at the National Academy in 1857, starting a continuous run of appearances in their annuals that lasted until 1870, when he expatriated himself to Europe. During his time in America, Hennessy was principally known as a genre painter and prolific illustrator for such publications as Harper’s Weekly and a number of books, including illustrated works of William Cullen Bryant...
