Subrata Gangopadhayay or Substrata as he is fondly addressed to is one the most well lauded artists of Bengal. With over 40 years as a painter he is a senior artist who has continuously awed his patrons
enthralled the art lovers coming up with the most brilliant works right in front of their very eyes.
( Subrata Gangopadhayay is one of the most talented figurative artists of Bengal. His brush flows on to the canvas magically bringing to life various forms of the daily life and festivities of Bengal. Woman feature very boldly in Gangopadhayay's canvas , whether in the form of Goddess Durga , Kali , Sakti , a Nursing Mother , a woman in the wilderness of the Jungle, A Lover or for that matter a woman adorning herself in front of the mirror waiting for her lover or then again her avatar as a friend to another sister. Whether its celebrating, Loving , Nursing, Protecting , Killing or any other form . No other artist has obsessively captured the essence of a Woman in all her Myriad forms, with the talent of the brush as great as Subrata Gangopadhayays')
Style : He is widely considered one of India's leading painters in the modern realistic tradition. The strength of his lines and the life-like quality of his figures are features that have contributed to his enormous popularity and success. Subrata's artistic vision is informed by swirling colors, a sense of movement and a vivid array of color. The characters are in oil and acrylic canvases, come alive in all of their colorful glory. He has the skills of a virtuoso draftsman, skills that he honed during his years as the Senior Artist of the Ananda Bazar Group of publications.
Subrata's women are all of these - charming 'adorable, seductive, vulnerable...compassionate... as with great controlled skill he expresses their moods through their eyes, smile
open body language. Each canvass is an excellent blend of technique
feeling as it evokes a nostalgic mood, each element expresses and emotional involvement - such is the charm
magic of his canvasses just as overwhelming is the variety of his work done. Undoubtedly a Master painter he is also a distinguished portrait artist, who paints in a mixed style within the broad expressionist format, standing firmly on the solid technical foundation derived form his training in academic realism. Brushwork ranges form smoothly realistic to the patchy impastos of vibrant expressionist bristles.

Stella Atal (Ugandan, active Paris, b. 1983) is a painter and fashion designer, and is the founder, owner and chief executive of Atal Stella Fashion House, with locations in Paris, France. She was born in the Northern Region of Uganda, along the northern shores of Lake Kyoga. Stella started her schooling in Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. She relocated to Kenya and continued her education there. Later, she completed her education in the United Kingdom. She has a bachelors and a master's degree in Fine Art.
She comfortably paints both miniature and large wall hangings using acrylics and water- based textile paints, she uses materials such as bark cloth, recycled paper made out of water hyacinth, Hessian, canvas and many other tradition materials. Her unique art pieces are inspired by ancient and contemporary African designs. They depict typical village scenes of life around Lake Victoria.
'Painting is the only way I can get back to my roots by using our cultural materials such as bark cloth that was used by our ancestors and helps me preserve my culture through some of the motifs I use that were used long ago as signs of belief and worship in the African culture.'
Her distinctive artwork is well known in Uganda and throughout East Africa. Her bold, fluid lines explore complex subjects such as women empowerment and national development with economy and grace. Her central artistic preoccupation is the continuation of distinctively African culture.
In 2007, she started her own label, Atal Stella. There she focuses on using what is locally available, including eco-friendly, natural and re-cycled material. Her designs have showcased at the Africa Fashion Week New York, in 2010 and at the Green Fashion...
