Following the guidance of her long-time teacher and mentor, the respected New England impressionist painter, Bernard Lennon, Susan Grisell developed a style marked adherence to nature. Her paintings are recognizable for their effortless rendering, with line and color that express the impressions of what she observes, and dense brushwork that conveys her response following the sensitive observation of atmosphere.
In May 2023, one of Susan's paintings "Blue Crock and Oranges" was featured in The Wall Street Journal.
Over the years, Susan’s work has won numerous awards, including first prizes at the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit in New York City, the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival in Mystic, Connecticut and most recently, the Da Vinci Award from New Milford.

Susan Grisell
Susan Grisell is from New Milford, Connecticut, USA, and remained in pastoral Western Connecticut along the Housatonic River, where she found inspiration in the surrounding natural beauty. At age 13, she declared - I will become an artist. Much of her artistic influence came from her friend and colleague, the impressionist Bernard Lennon, with whom she studied until his death in 1992. She recalls, "In my teens I watched him paint - just watched - but that was how I started to learn." Both Lennon and Grisell shunned what was popular in art and painted what they wanted. Commercial success was not a driving force - they painted for the love of it. Grisell's paintings evoke feelings of peace and tranquility. She is completely self-taught, relying on a personal sense of aesthetics to produce works of great beauty. She works directly from nature - en plein air. In the early 2000s, Grisell traveled to Venice and Paris, where she found new inspiration for the subject matter and produced masterly cityscapes.

Hannig, born in Hirschberg, Germany on 27 February 1883, came to America with his parents at the age of seven. He attended school in the southwest suburbs before the family settled in Chicago. Young Henry enrolled in the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts where Lawton Parker became his mentor. He made ends meet by working in industrial design and illustration.
By 1908 he was a pupil in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where students followed the traditional European drawing curriculum, beginning with the copying of master engravings and drawing after plaster casts, then concentrating on the nude figure.
