About the Item
"Seven Eleven" is an original painting by Tom Haugomat, made as part of his traveling artist residency with The Jaunt. Traveling from France to Philadelphia, Haugomat was inspired by his new environment. He rendered commuters, city scenes, and landscapes in small, film-still-like paintings with his signature illustration style. This piece is made of acrylic on paper, secured with museum glass with a metal tape edge, and arrives with backing and hanging loop. This piece measures 3"h x 4"w and is signed en recto.
Born in Paris in 1985, Tom Haugomat developed an early interest in drawing and its narrative potential. After one year studying art history and archaeology, he shifted toward formal artistic training. While studying at Les Gobelins in the “Design and Production of Animated Films” department, he discovered a passion for the moving image. There, he met Bruno Mangyoku, with whom he co-directed the short film Jean-François (Arte, 2009). He continues to build a distinctive illustrated world alongside his work in animation, often blending techniques across mediums.
Haugomat’s style is minimalist, frequently centered on a single detail while allowing negative space to play an essential role. Working with a reduced color palette, he achieves a surprising sense of depth. His layered color fields, though often produced digitally, deliberately evoke the aesthetics of silkscreen printing, a technique he greatly admires and has used in projects such as Hors Pistes (2011).

Born in Paris in 1985, Tom Haugomat quickly became interested in drawing and its narrative potential. After a year of studies in art history and archeology, he turned to a more artistic direction. During his time at Gobelins art school, studying “Design and production of animated films”, that he discovered a passion for the moving image. He met Bruno Mangyoku, with whom he creates the short film Jean-François (Arte, 2009). He hopes to continue to build a world in illustration and to make animated films by mixing painting techniques. His style is quite minimalist. It generally focuses on a detail and then lets the void play its role of highlighting. While using a range of colors blocked in careful sections, he manages to give depth to his drawing. His masses and overlays games, although worked digitally, almost intentionally invoke the technique of silkscreen, he greatly appreciates and even uses in his book Hors Pistes (2011).
