About the Item
The painting is about the Florentine school and a seventeenth-century Italian school. Oil on canvas without signature
After Lorenzo Lippi (1606–1665) who was a prominent Florentine Baroque painter and poet. He trained under Matteo Rosselli, absorbing influences from narrative clarity and naturalism that defined his style. Known for saying he wished “to paint as he saw,” Lippi produced works characterized by elegant form, gentle coloration, and expressive realism
Among his most admired paintings are the Crucifixion (Uffizi Gallery) and the Triumph of David (Palazzo Pitti), which includes detailed portraits of twenty-plus children of the owner, Angiolo Galli
Saint Cecilia, patroness of music, was a beloved subject during the Baroque period—often depicted playing an instrument or in a moment of spiritual devotion:
It could be an attributed copy, a work by a pupil or follower, or a misattribution. Attributions to Lippi often center on religious or allegorical subjects, but I couldn't find a definitive Saint Cecilia in his catalogued oeuvre.
