About the Item
Figures gather in prayer within a vast cathedral interior. Peczely employs loose, impressionistic brushwork and renders the background in hazy vertical streaks, providing the scene with a holy, otherworldly atmosphere. What is most compelling about the work, however, is Peczely's mastery of light, which pours through the cathedral windows to illuminate the reverent figures in a divine glow. Signed to the lower left. Well presented in an ornate gilt-effect frame. On canvas on stretchers. Image size: 39 x 49cm.
