A beautiful example of a 17th-century Flemish School garland painting depicting Joseph, the Virgin Mary and Christ.
This particular genre emerged from Antwerp, often as a collaboration between a still-life painter and a figure painter. The fruits frequently carried religious and symbolic meaning, alluding to concepts such as the Passion of Christ, the Eucharist, and the transience of life.
Presented in a later gilt-effect frame, this highly collectable example bears the monogram A.D. in the lower left, with an indistinct date of '166?'. On canvas. Image size: 25.5 x 21cm.
