Oil on Canvas. Venetian school of the 18th century.
The large northern landscape, with verdant mountain slopes in the midst of which a river flows, is inhabited by several figures in the foreground: a group of people are listening to a young man standing in the center, announcing something, pointing, with outstretched arm upward, the sun ripping through the dark clouds.
It evokes a preaching of St. John the Baptist, although no iconographic elements specifically lead back to that character.
The painting, restored and re-tinted, is mounted on an early 20th-century frame.
It is presented in a coeval frame.
