About the Item

Oil on Canvas. Tuscan school of the seventeenth century. Greek myth tells of Zeus turning into a swan to approach and seduce Leda, the queen of Sparta. A recurring theme in the painting, in this depiction the white bodies of the 'bird and the naked woman, already in the act of joining, stand out in the background of the darkened room, while in the upper right corner a winged putto, armed with a bow and arrows, covers his eyes so as not to see the scabrous intercourse. Previously subtoposed to restoration and retouching, the painting is presented in a styled frame.
