About the Item
Ursula Vivian McCannell 1923 - 2015, was a English born artist who painted in an impressionist style. Both her Father and Mother were painters. Ursula studied under her Father at the Farnham School of Art and also at the Royal Academy. She travelled with her Father to Spain before the beginning of the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War which influenced her life thereafter, visiting regularly on painting trips. Her paintings in Spain were of the peasants and farm workers including refugees and scenes such as this painting, the bird watchers. She married in 1945 and had three sons two of whom became painters. She exhibited widely and continuously at the Royal Academy, the Redfern Gallery, the Wertheim Gallery, the London Group, Gimpel Fins Gallery, Leicester Galleries, the New English Art Club and others. She was a very popular painter and her works are held in Museums including Manchester and various private collections, still in demand. This picture is signed and dated 1936.
