About the Item
In a process of deconstruction and repair, I reassemble images and marks on canvas to explore the fractured psychology of the modern Arab city. This ongoing experiment reflects layered histories, cultural complexities, and compressed energies that define urban life. Architecture and geography become visual records of ideology, fragments through which history inscribes itself.
Technique for most of my work on canvas:
The canvas is unrolled and left open on the studio floor for weeks, allowing for a layered, immersive process. I work with mixed media, ink, oil, acrylic, stencils, stamps, and chine collé print, before cutting, stretching, and continuing the work vertically. This approach creates a dynamic balance between control and spontaneity, embracing both intention and accident in the mark-making.
