About the Item
"Good and Evil" by Zura draws from the visual language of iconography to explore faith, protection, and the eternal struggle between light and darkness. In this work, Saint George appears not only as a legendary figure, but as a deeply personal symbol—the artist’s own patron and protector.
While the figure may echo aspects of the artist himself, the meaning extends beyond the personal. Zura suggests that each individual carries a guardian, and that every family holds its own sense of protection and belief. The presence of the dragon is equally symbolic, reflecting the duality within human nature—the coexistence of strength and vulnerability, light and shadow.
Executed in mixed media on canvas, including gold leaf, acrylic, graphite, and charcoal, the work bridges sacred tradition with contemporary expression. Good and Evil stands as both a personal reflection and a universal meditation on faith, struggle, and inner balance.

ZURA (Georgian-American, b. 1969) Central to Zura’s artistic vision is the human form, often intertwined with animal heads—a compelling exploration of the primal instincts within human nature. His work captivates with its raw emotion, symbolic depth, and refined execution. In the spring of 2022, he captivated audiences during an exhibition in Williamsburg, unveiling a striking new series of works. Zura is a world-renowned artist celebrated for his powerful sculptures and paintings. His works grace public spaces across New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, and Connecticut, and are held in distinguished private collections, including that of American hedge fund manager Victor Niederhoffer. Born in the Republic of Georgia, Zura spent 14 years developing his craft before formally studying at the State Academy of Fine Art. He now lives and works in Brooklyn, where his Williamsburg studio serves as both a creative sanctuary and a teaching space, where he shares his expertise through sculpting classes. Zura remains deeply committed to his practice, guided by a philosophy rooted in beauty, love, and harmony.
