Ionic columns are a classical architectural style characterized by their slender, fluted shafts and ornate capitals featuring volutes, which are distinctive spiral scrolls. They are considered more elegant than the Doric order and often stand on a base that separates the shaft from the platform. Famous examples include the Erechtheion in Athens and the Jefferson Memorial, with variations found in both Greek and Roman styles.
