About the Item
A wonderfully detailed interior genre oil painting by Flemish artist Louis Tielemans (1826-1856). Tielemans was born in Anvers, and became known for his active genre scenes, emulating the style and subject matter of the 17th century Dutch genre painter forebearers, reproducing the techniques and mood of the old masters. Oil on wood panel, signed lower right, titled on artist placard “Titian’s Studio,” and housed in a fine decorative giltwood frame. Dimensions: 29.38 in H x 23.25 in W, actual; 42.75 in H x 37 in W x 2.5 in D. Ref: 8

A beautiful oval landscape painting with two young girls reading near Niagara Falls by German American artist Louis Lang (1814-1893). Lang was born in Waldsee, Wurtemberg, Germany, and came from an artistic family, his father being a history painter. Combining this heritage with his own native talents, he was producing successful pastels at age sixteen. Lang studied in Stuttgart, Germany and Paris, France, before coming to the United States in 1838. He first settled in Philadelphia, then lived in Italy from 1841-1845, before returning to America (1847) and living the majority of his life in New York City, with frequent visits to Europe.
