About the Item
In this painting, Robert Richter presents the viewer with something of a still life. Not unlike the early cubist paintings of Picasso and Braque, which often focused on the vibrant cafe life of Paris, Richter depicts a pair of ice cream parlor chairs before a wooden table. The artist often depicts outdoor public spaces, such as parks and walkways, and so this closely cropped image of a table and chairs fits well into his oeuvre.

Born in Milwaukee, Robert Richter has been painting from the age of 8. His unique paintings are hand carved on wood as well as hand carved frames that become an integral part of the paintings. The artist comments, “I want my paintings to be stunning from across the room, to beckon, as all good paintings should. And then close up, what a surprise!” The artist lived in New York where he painted literally everything from stage sets to mural commissions. He painted store front windows, lithographs from aluminum plates for actors, T-shirts, costumes, curtains, wall hangings, furniture and floors. His unique experiences, intellect, extraordinary color sensibility result in a stunning style with flavors of Avery, Grant Wood and Matisse, but mostly himself.
