About the Item

Jacques Bouyssou, French, 1926-1997 “Les Voiles ” Oil on canvas 5 by 6 ½ in. sight 11 by 10 ½ in. framed signed lower left – also labeled on verso a gem of a small post-impressionist painting where the artist’s talent for composition, harmonious sense of colors and luminosity are on full display ! About the artist : Born in Honfleur in 1926, Jacques Bouyssou was still a child when exposed to art exhibited in his father's gallery. Artists such as Othon-Friez, Dufy, Lagar, and Leprin were frequent guests at his family home. Bouyssou first studied architecture and draftsmanship at the Beaux Arts de Troyes and later in Paris at Académie de la Grande Chaumière with painting as his focus. There, Bouyssou was tutored by Friez; his favorite theme was the sea and beach scenes from his native Normandy. Success came swiftly with multiple exhibitions in the 50’s on wards in Paris, London and New York. Superb draftsmanship and composition in a post-impressionist style, supported by clear, sensitive and harmonious use of color and light are celebrated by discerning collectors and his paintings are found in notable private collections and museums throughout Europe and the United States .
