Kwon Ji-an’s Humming Letter #102 is a vibrant and immersive work that translates the rhythm of sound into a lush, textured landscape. As part of her renowned Humming Letter series, this piece captures the interplay of nature, movement, and sensory depth, offering an experience that is both visual and emotional.
The composition is an expansive field of rich greens, illuminated by bursts of yellow, evoking the energy of a sunlit forest or a meadow in full bloom. The textured application of paint, applied directly by the artist’s hands, creates an organic, sculptural surface where every movement and gesture is preserved. Kwon’s signature calligraphic script appears along the right edge, seamlessly integrated into the painting, reinforcing the connection between sound, movement, and visual form.
What sets this piece apart is its ability to create a sense of immersion. The dense layering of paint draws the viewer into a deep, almost meditative space, where the boundaries between abstraction and natural form blur. The dynamic brushwork suggests the gentle motion of leaves swaying in the wind or the vibrations of a humming melody, making the piece feel alive with energy.
Kwon Ji-an’s Humming Letter series has established itself as a significant body of work, widely recognized for its ability to bridge the gap between music and painting. Humming Letter #102 is a particularly compelling example of her technique, offering a sense of depth and movement that continues to reveal new details upon each viewing.
Collectors who appreciate contemporary abstraction with a strong emotional resonance will find this piece particularly meaningful. Its large format enhances its presence, making it a striking focal point in any space. As Kwon Ji-an continues to evolve as an artist, her works are increasingly sought after by those who appreciate her unique ability to translate intangible sensations into visually expressive compositions.
This mixed-media painting is in excellent condition, professionally maintained to ensure the longevity of its vibrant hues and layered textures. The thick impasto technique creates a dynamic surface that responds to light, revealing different aspects of color and depth depending on the angle from which it is viewed. The tactile quality of the work invites close observation, making it a piece that offers an evolving experience over time.
Kwon Ji-an’s transition from music to fine art has shaped her unique approach to painting, where auditory and visual elements are intrinsically linked. The Humming Letter series is an ongoing exploration of this relationship, with each work capturing a specific resonance of sound, memory, and movement. Since her debut as a visual artist in 2012, Kwon has continued to refine her expressive technique, earning recognition both in Korea and internationally.
This piece presents a rare opportunity to acquire a significant work from one of Kwon Ji-an’s most recognized series. Its expressive movement, immersive color palette, and deeply layered texture make it a compelling addition to any collection, offering both visual beauty and emotional depth.

Kwon Ji-an, professionally known as Solbi, is a multidisciplinary South Korean artist who has made a remarkable transition from the world of K-Pop to the contemporary art scene. After debuting in 2006 as a singer in the group Typhoon, she gradually shifted her focus toward the visual arts, culminating in her first solo exhibition in 2012, A Person’s Way of Looking at the World, in Seoul. Since then, she has developed a highly personal and expressive artistic language that fuses painting, performance, video, and sound. Her work is rooted in autobiographical experience and emotional introspection, often addressing the pressures of public life, the impact of cyberbullying, and the healing power of creativity. Through “self-collaboration”, she merges her background in music with visual art, creating dynamic compositions that incorporate sound waves and tactile gestures. Kwon frequently paints with her hands, producing richly textured surfaces full of movement and emotion, reminiscent of the expressive qualities found in the works of Renoir and Van Gogh.
Her paintings explore the boundaries between existence and nonexistence, chaos and harmony, material and immaterial. Her signature aesthetic is characterized by swirling color fields, bold gestures, and a strong sense of rhythm, reflecting her belief in the power of sensory experience. In 2015, she introduced her interdisciplinary project TRACE, marking a turning point in her practice and affirming her position as an “art-tainer", a unique cultural figure who bridges the gap between pop culture and
contemporary art. In recognition of her contributions, she received the Arttainer Division Award at the 2019 Korea First Brand Awards. Today, Kwon Ji-an stands as one of South Korea’s most original and influential voices in the arts, continuing to push boundaries through works that are not only seen but deeply felt.
“If my paintings can touch someone’s heart and be part of their healing process, that would be amazing.” – Kwon Ji-an
