About the Item
Pleasing composition by Israeli/New York artist Abraham (Avraham) Goldberg (1903-1980).
Signed lower right A. Goldberg. Also signed on the verso. In very good condition and framed nicely with the artist’s signature plate lower center. The work is oil on board and measures 12 x 16 inches, the frame is 18 1/4 x 22 inches. The subject is a little house in the woods with a prominent red roof.
Israeli born Goldberg (1903-1980) was a prominent Labor Zionist (Poalei Zion) in New York in the early 20th century and a founder of the "Forbad", the National Jewish Worker's Alliance, which is still in existence today as "The Workman's Circle" or "Arbiter Ring". He was also chairman of the American Federation for Polish Jewish. As an artist, Abraham Goldberg is known for Jewish genre and religious paintings.
