About the Item

Victorian Marine Oil Painting of Sunset Scene with Shipping and Row Boats returning to Shore at the end of the day. A beautiful small framed Oil on Panel that is framed in a handmade traditional gold frame ans signed lower right by Adolphus Knell, one of the famous Knell Family of Maritime Painters. Adolphus Knell is rightly famous for his gorgeous depictions of busy shipping scenes, often at Dawn or Dusk, his Ships are well observed and the Fishermen and Sailors he depicts are well drawn and believable. Knell was painting in the latter half of the Nineteenth Century and though prolific he remains highly collectible as the quality of his work is always excellent. His father William Adolphus Knell and his brother Callcott Knell were also talented painters who exclusively painted Marine Scenes.
