About the Item

In the manner of Claude Monet, 1840 - 1926. Monet was a French impressionist painter. In 1870 as a result of the Franco- Prussian War he moved to London where he carried out a number of paintings the majority of which focused around various subjects on the Thames. This picture is, date unknown, of the Thames houseboats and includes the images of the Battersea power station which is painted in the manner of Monet and the label on the reverse side states that it was painted by Christine Cole, however this is a highly accomplished work by a talented professional artist and there is a question over the legitimacy of the label, consequently this work has been catalogued as ' In the manner of ' and not by the artist that was named on the reverse side. We have not contacted the named painter as our resourceful researcher has now retired and we are left to find another researcher. However a new owner may wish to establish the facts of the work , there are professional images to follow and we have included the before and after restoration cleaning and a number of Infrared images. This picture is unsigned.
