About the Item
This absolutely stunning large Scottish Edwardian Impressionist landscape oil painting is by noted artist Alexander Jamieson. Painted circa 1910 and entitled evening on the lake. The composition is looking across a lake to fields and a small hamlet and hills beyond. The summer sky with patches of blue is magnificently reflected in the water. The details and impasto are beautiful. This is an excellent Scottish Edwardian landscape and a superb example of Jamieson's work.

Condition. Oil on canvas, 50 inches by 32 inches and in good condition.
Frame. Housed in a gilt frame, framed size is 57 inches by 39 inches and in good condition.
Alexander Jamieson (1873-1937) - painter of landscapes, chiefly views of French towns and gardens, and occasional portraits and genre. Born 23 September 1873 in Glasgow. Studied at the Haldane Academy, Glasgow, and won a Scholarship to Paris in 1898. Influenced by Manet and the plein-air painters as well as Constable. Member of the International Society 1904. On the Managing Committee of the A.A.A. 1908. Executed wall decorations at Bridgewater House 1910. Visited Spain 1911. First one-man exhibition at the Carfax Gallery 1912. Served in France 1914–19. Exhibited at Glasgow, the Goupil Gallery and from 1928 at the R.A. Lived at Weston Turville, Buckinghamshire. Died in London 2 May 1937.

Alexander Jamieson
Alexander Jamieson was a painter of landscapes, chiefly views of French towns and gardens and occasional portraits and genre. He studied at the Haldane Academy, Glasgow, and won a scholarship to Paris in 1898. He was influenced by Manet and the plein-air painters as well as Constable. Jamieson was a member of the International Society in 1904. He was on the Managing Committee of the A.A.A. in 1908. He executed wall decorations at Bridgewater House in 1910 and visited Spain in 1911. Jamieson had his first one-man exhibition at the Carfax Gallery in 1912. He served in France from 1914–19. Jamieson exhibited at Glasgow, the Goupil Gallery, and from 1928 at the R.A. He lived at Weston Turville, Buckinghamshire. He died in London on May 2nd, 1937.

A beautiful, large landscape painting, oil on panel, by Scottish listed artist Joseph Milne. The river is the Tay, one of his favourites to paint and the view is from the foot of the tower on Binn Hill with the Fife hills given a little more majesty. This painting is a typical Scottish Impressionist painting with vibrant brushwork. It was painted circa 1900 and is in very good condition in its original frame from W Stewart of Perth. It has various labels verso. Milne exhibited extensively at The Royal Scottish Academy and The Royal Academy. This is a lovely example of an early twentieth century Scottish oil.
