A fine impressionist painting on the shore of Cape Cod with cottages, boats, and figures by American artist Alexis Jean Fournier (1865-1948). Fournier was born on the fourth of July in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was one of the most flamboyant and enduring figures of the Arts and Crafts movement and was also an Impressionist painter of major importance in Minneapolis from 1883 to 1893. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, titled on front placard and inscribed on verso stretcher “While The Tide Is Out, Provincetown,” and housed in a decorative molded giltwood frame. Dimensions: 16 in H x 20 in W, actual; 23.25 in H x 27.25 in W, framed.

In 1905, Gerrit Beneker began his art career as an illustrator. He married Flora Judd, his high school sweetheart from Grand Rapids and they moved to Brooklyn, NY. Gerrit's early passion was to create an art that would inspire and provide honor to the workingman. As such, he had no interest in painting portraits of pretty women, which were so often seen on the magazine covers of the day. Rather he wanted to seek out workingmen on the bridges, tunnels and skyscrapers of NYC, and paint them in their environments.
