About the Item

‘Morecambe Bay’ by Alfred de Breanski ARCA (1852-1928). The painting - which depicts cattle grazing on Heysham salt marshes in Morecambe Bay with a view of the Old Man of Coniston and the fells of the Lake District in the background – is signed by the artist and dated 1877, in which year it was exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. Alfred de Bréanski was one of the most popular and successful landscape painters of late Victorian Britain. Between 1869 and 1919 he exhibited at all the major national venues including the Royal Academy, the Royal Society of British Artists, the British Institution, Grosvenor Gallery, Royal Cambrian Academy, Royal Hibernian Academy and the Walker Gallery in Liverpool.
