Early Twentieth Century Impressionist Landscape of Trees in a Wooded Landscape in Autumn with gold and rust coloured Leaves. This Impressionistic Unsigned Oil Painting on Canvas is mounted on Stretchers and Framed in its original Gold Frame. This painting created by the Belgian Painter Alfred T J Bastien around the turn of the last Century. The autumn forest is rendered in red, brown, yellow and green dots of paint , between the trees sunlight falls through the dense leafage and the spectator can catch a glimpse of the sky indicated by the blue dots of paint applied in an overall impressionist mode. This evocative composition reminds the viewer of the fascinating colours and the beauty autumn brings.
The painting is in overall good condition with only minimal traces of framing along the edges and the paint is protected with a layer of varnish. The gold wooden painted frame is also in good condition with very minor traces of use.
Paintings by this artist regularly fetch record prices especially on the Chinese Art Market as Bastien visited China frequently and he was in fact the teacher of the great Wu Zuoren (1908 - 1997).
His paintings are exhibited at the Canadian War Museum and can be found in numerous European Collections.
