Alfred Wands
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Alfred Wands graduated from the Cleveland School of Art with honors. Following that, he spent six months in Paris studying at the Academie Julian. In the late 1920’s, Wands returned to Ohio to teach painting at the Cleveland School of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Art. In 1930, Wands moved to Denver to direct the art program at Colorado Women’s College. He remained at the Women’s College for the next 17 years. During his time in Denver, Wands frequently traveled to Taos, New Mexico. He and his family spent eleven summers there between 1930 and 1940. By 1943, he had become the Camp Artist at the YMCA of the Rockies, where he taught summer art classes. He later became the Chairman of their Religious Programs and Adult Advisory Committees. By 1947, he quit his teaching position at the Colorado Woman's College to devote full time to his painting. By 1955, Wands opened his own studio and gallery in Estes Park, Colorado. Known as the "Dean of Colorado Landscape Painters", he served three times as the President of the Denver Artists Guild. He was the Chairman of the Denver Art Commission for 16 years. California Sunset Landscape - "In The Distance"
By Max Flandorfer
Located in Soquel, CA
Evocative landscape of a glowing sunset over calm waters by California artist Max Flandorfer (American, b. 1962). Signed "Max Flandorfer" lower left. Signed, titled "In the Distance" and dated 2011 on verso. Presented in giltwood frame. Image, 16"H x 20"W.
Primarily a plein air painter, Max is an avid outdoors man and is always seeking to capture that spiritual and the humble quality of nature. His work evokes a restful, contemplative stillness that he seeks both in life and his art.
Growing up in Miami, Flandorfer spent most weekends and summers outdoors in the Everglades, or on the water soaking up the rich color and beauty of the tropical landscape. He moved with his family to Ocean Springs, Mississippi for a brief period before moving out to California where he has lived for over 20 years.
Mostly self-taught, he was forever drawing and sketching as a kid, but the beautiful landscape and rich artistic heritage of the Monterey Peninsula's artist colony that was the deciding influence on his later works. An illustration instructor, Jane Miller of the Monterey Peninsula College encouraged him to study early California greats such as Granville Redmond...

Impressionist Oil Painting – Sunset Over Colorado Front Range Landscape
By Charles Partridge Adams
Located in Denver, CO
This evocative oil on canvas painting by renowned American landscape artist Charles Partridge Adams (1858–1942) beautifully captures a glowing sunset along Colorado's majestic Front Range. Rendered in a refined Tonalist style, the work features tall, mature trees bathed in soft hues of green, amber, gold, and rust, evoking the serene transition of day into evening in the Western landscape.
Although unsigned, this work is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the artist’s estate, ensuring provenance and collector confidence. The painting is presented in a vintage gold frame, enhancing its timeless appeal. Framed dimensions measure 18 ½ x 26 ¼ inches; the canvas itself measures 16 x 24 inches.
This piece reflects Adams’s signature ability to translate the quiet drama of nature into rich, atmospheric compositions. A fine addition to any collection of American Western art, Tonalism, or early 20th-century landscape painting.
