Condition: As is normal with unframed works on paper there are some minor old creases or paper edge curls/ tears - all of which should be covered over or smoothed out once framed; generally very good and sound.
Provenance: as with all the works we have by this artist, it has come from the artists estate in France.
Description: This poignant early 20th-century charcoal drawing depicts a woman in traditional dress holding a large woven basket, dated 7th February 1918. Though unsigned, the artist’s hand is confident and expressive, capturing the quiet dignity of the figure through strong form and rich tonal contrast.
The subject’s attire and pose reflect a moment of everyday life, possibly wartime rural labour or market activity. The date inscribed in French situates the piece in the final year of World War I, subtly anchoring it within a significant historical moment.
