Title: Mid-20th Century French Pastel Harbour Scene With Boats and Pier and Figures by Anne Marie Migette Perard (French 1902-1977) Signed: Yes Medium: Pastel on unframed paper Size: 13 inches (height) x 16.75 inches (width) Condition: As is normal with unframed works on paper there are some minor old creases or paper edge curls/ tears - all of which should be covered over or smoothed out once framed; generally very good and sound. Provenance: as with all the works we have by this artist, it has come from the artists estate in France. Description: This atmospheric pastel by Anne Marie Migette Perard beautifully captures a tranquil harbour moment, likely along the French or Mediterranean coast, in her unmistakably modern Post-Impressionist style. At the centre of the composition, a softly rendered sailboat is moored beside a wooden pier, its hull painted in layered shades of aqua, pale blue, and ochre, with its reflection shimmering gently in the still water below. The pier is alive with subtle narrative detail: two small but clearly defined figures appear near its edge, gazing out towards the water, perhaps in quiet conversation or watching the boats return from sea. Their inclusion adds a lovely touch of humanity and movement to the scene. Further details—such as colourful dock crates in red, blue and ochre hues—lend depth and rhythm to the vertical lines of the pier’s structure.
