Description: An evocative British watercolour painting by Tony Herbert 1927 to 2024 capturing a quiet estuary or coastal ferry point with small wooden sheds foreground grasses and a misty harbour town in the distance. One building is marked with the word Ferry and a faint inscription underneath possibly referencing Southwold suggesting a location along the East Anglian coast. A few solitary figures and a moored rowing boat give the scene human presence without overpowering the natural atmosphere.
Herbert’s masterful use of muted colour and loose expressive brushwork gives this painting a peaceful and moody feel with overcast skies reflected in the soft grey water. The distant line of red flags and rooftops evokes the understated charm of English seaside villages especially those along the Suffolk coast such as Walberswick or Southwold.
