Description: This atmospheric watercolour captures the sweeping view from Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park, a historic Grade II listed Georgian mansion perched on the highest point of the park. Richmond Park itself is one of London’s eight Royal Parks, known for its vast open landscapes, ancient woodlands, and panoramic views across the Thames Valley. The vantage point from Pembroke Lodge looks westward over the gardens and meadows towards Windsor on a clear day, making it a favourite subject for artists and walkers alike.
In this particular scene by British artist Anthony (Tony) Herbert (1927–2024), the season is rendered in rich golden tones, suggesting an early autumn setting. A winding path leads the eye through the parkland, flanked by vibrant foliage in deep ochres, burnt oranges, and dusky greens.
