Description: This gentle, windswept coastal view by British painter Tony Herbert (1927–2024) offers a more rural take on the ever-popular Robin Hood’s Bay. Painted in 1983, the scene depicts a quiet cluster of cottages nestled on a grassy slope, overlooking the expansive North Sea. A simple fence in the foreground leads the eye toward the buildings and beyond to the soft grey outlines of distant headlands, veiled in sea mist.
Unlike many of Herbert’s harbour scenes, this piece emphasises space and atmosphere.
