About the Item

Oil on Canvas. The landscape of a richly vegetated countryside, against the backdrop of which is a mountain range of sharp peaks, is enlivened by the presence of three washerwomen, who go to the river with wheelbarrows full of laundry, while a wayfarer crosses the small bridge that spans the small waterway. The work is executed in the style of Antonio Peruzzini (1650 - 1724), probably by one of his pupils or followers, but is unsigned. Peruzzini was a pivotal figure in seventeenth- to eighteenth-century landscape painting, in which he started from a seventeenth-century expression and then moved on to an interpretation of movement and color typical of the Rococo, using lighter, brighter tones and inserting a kind of vitality into his paintings. Particular is the use of color, especially in the hatching of human figures, which are outlined by thick brushstrokes of material, making them stand out in the foreground from the landscape. The painting has previously undergone restoration and retouching, and is currently in good condition. It is presented in styled frame.
