An artist of Venetian origin, Antonio Stom (c. 1688 - 1734) characterised his production with various representations of architectural caprices which, partially in ruins and overgrown by vegetation, give his works a flavour of suspended timelessness. Our painting faithfully follows Stom's style, showing a grandiose Roman triumphal arch in the foreground.
