Throughout her four-decade career, Arminée Chahbazian has examined the tension between displacement and stability—of people, pigment, and meaning. Her years in France and on the U.S. East Coast deepened her engagement with psychological space and the subtleties of abstraction. In this 2018 painting, transparent veils of color drift across the surface like dissolving borders, creating a soft choreography of light and form. The result feels both meditative and migratory, capturing the fluidity of identity and experience. Chahbazian’s training at Yale and the Skowhegan School is evident in her confident handling of texture and tone, making Migrant a quietly powerful reflection on passage and transformation.
