'Crows-Nest Mountain' in 1931 by New York City artist Arthur Frischke. Oil on canvas, 22 x 26 in. / Frame 30 x 32.25 in. This landscape view features Crows-Nest Mountain, located in Highlands, NY along the Hudson River. This painting features pastel colors in blue, green, orange, white, and brown.
Born in New York City in 1853, Arthur Frischke, a well-known 20th century artist born in New York City, studied painted landscapes, still life and portraits, but he was particularly fond of the Hudson and the towns alongside the river from New York to the Highlands. He is known for his direct realistic style and Hudson River palette.
Arthur Frischke studied at Cooper Union and the National Academy of Design, and was also a member of the American Artists Professional League. He exhibited at the Salon of American Exhibition at The Academy of Design at the age of 24 and in the 30s became enamored of Peekskill and the Hudson Highlands.
Frischke continued a successful career, exhibiting in New York City and the East Coast throughout his 70's where he maintained a studio in the Bronx. He died in 1970, leaving a rich legacy still highly sought after by collectors today. Some of his works are included in the collection of the Smithsonian.
