Augustin Bader is presented as a painter from Fribourg who studied with the romantic painter Charles-Caïus Renoux. He was born in Tours and went to work in Switzerland where he painted landscapes in the romantic style. Augustin Bader exhibited at the Paris Salon between the 1830s and 1860s Swiss landscapes mainly in the canton of Friborg (View of the Gotteron valley, View of the Tusy bridge, View of the Charmey valley, Chillon castle on Lake Geneva, Cerniat ravine, Black Lake). In our painting a valley can be seen with a stream, chalets and a mountain in the background. It could be a view of the Charmey valley in the canton of Fribourg.
