Pierre Ernest BALLUE (1855-1928) Landscape From french countryside Paysage de la creuse written on the reverse Oil on canvas signed low right Old Frame gilded with Leaves Dim canvas : 60 X 81 cm Dim Frame : 82 X 104 cm BALLUE Pierre Ernest (1855-1928) Pierre BALLUE was born in The Hague -Descartes on February 27, 1855. He died on May 18, 1928. He was the husband of Thérèse POMEY, a miniaturist painter. Pierre BALLUE specialized in landscape and exhibited for the first time in 1875 at the Society of French Artists and every year from that date until his death. He won a second medal in 1891, a bronze medal at the 1900 World's Fair and finally a gold medal in 1911 with a large painting of the forest of Fontainebleau which is now at the Museum of Châtellerault. Several Provincial Museums have got works by Ballue. But many were destroyed in the fire of the Museum of Tours in 1940. He painted in various places in France, including Barbizon near Fontainebleau where he was a pupil of VALLEE, DEFAUX and DAMERON.
