Die 1952 in Bad Bleiberg in Kärnten geborene und seit 1988 in Wien und Köln lebende freischaffende Künstlerin Barbara Szüts, studierte bei Prof. Carl Unger an der Universität für angewandte Kunst in Wien.
Barbara Szüts’ Ausgangspunkt ist die eigene künstlerische Handschrift, der Gestus, der Zeichnungen hervorbringt, die aus verdichteten Linien bestehen. Durch ein Computerprogramm „übersetzt“, gelangen ausgewählte Motive schließlich in die Werkstatt, um dort aus Edelstahl ausgeschnitten zu werden. Die Linienschwünge entstehen dabei nicht gestisch beliebig, sondern sind körperlich sinnliche, lang erprobte und trotzdem spontan gezeichnete Wahrnehmungen. Edelstahl und Aluminium spielen in den künstlerischen Arbeiten der gebürtigen Kärntnerin eine wichtige Rolle; sind es doch Werkstoffe, die Licht und Farben der Umgebung aufnehmen.
