About the Item
In Dock Scene, American artist Bernard Corey captures the quiet beauty of a New England harbor. Corey's loose, expressive brushwork and earthy tones reflect the hallmarks of American impressionism. This coastal scene, rich with maritime character, offers collectors a timeless glimpse into the charm of old fishing villages and working waterfronts. Bernard Corey
Bernard Corey (1914-2000), known for his delicate New England landscapes, is considered one of the premier New England plein air artists of the twentieth century. He was born on September 3, 1914, in Grafton, Massachusetts, and he lived his life in the house that his grandfather built in South Grafton. In the early 1960s, he made the decision to dedicate his life to being an artist. He moved to Rockport for a short time to hone his skills and quickly established himself as a professional painter. Corey always drew his inspiration from nature. He felt that it was necessary to paint directly from the source as opposed to working in the studio or from photographs, and painted a variety of subject matter, in oils and watercolors, on location throughout New England. He was a member of The Allied Artists Society, The Salmagundi Club of New York City, The Guild of Boston Artists, The Hudson Valley (NY) Art Association, The North Shore Art Association, The Academic Artists Society, The American Artists Professional League, The American Watercolor Society, and The Rockport Art Association.
