Large 19th Century Crusades scene of the Knights Of Malta sailing off the Barbary Coast, oil on canvas by Bernard Finegan Gribble. Excellent quality and condition example of the British maritime painters work filled with bold detail and colour. Presented in its original antique gilt frame. Signed.
Measurements: 45" x 35" framed approx
Provenance: collection of Sir Edward Rhodes
Artist Biography
Bernard Finegan Gribble was a student at South Kensington School of Art. He featured at the Salon de Paris, being awarded an honourable mention in 1906. The title of marine artist does not fit him exactly, because he specialised in painting the activity in ports and on ships.
