From our anniversary exhibition “40 Years Galerie Bonnard”, we are proud to represent the artist Bianca Berends. With her vibrant figurative work—where realism and abstraction merge into an almost moving whole—she has added something entirely new to our collection. Her paintings are distinguished by a strong, bold, and expressive brushstroke.
Bianca Berends is Dutch and lives and works primarily on Curaçao, while also maintaining a studio in Amsterdam.
Berends harmonizes figurative and abstract elements to create a visual language centered on human connection, freedom, and dreams, while leaving space for viewers to bring their own stories and memories into the work.
Bianca Berends has been recognized by the Portrait Society of America as one of today’s leading artists and recently received a Certificate of Excellence for one of her portraits. Her work has also been selected for the prestigious BP Portrait Award in London. Her paintings have been exhibited in renowned museums and galleries in Canada, Great Britain, and the Netherlands. Reproductions of her 2014 portrait of Willem-Alexander, King of the Netherlands, are part of the permanent collections of numerous government institutions in the Netherlands.
All paintings shown here are available for viewing and purchase in our gallery. We also offer her book In the Studio (In het Atelier), in which the artist invites readers to follow her creative process over 150 days in her studio. The book has received glowing reviews and is considered a must-read for anyone interested in experiencing the creative process up close.
