About the Item

This atmospheric winter scene by Swedish artist Birger Borgman captures the stillness and quiet beauty of a snow-covered landscape at dusk. Soft lavender and blue shadows stretch across the snow, while the last warm hues of sunlight glow behind a delicate tangle of bare trees. Borgman’s sensitive rendering of light and texture creates a deeply evocative mood — a poetic moment frozen in time. Birger Borgman was born in Gävle in 1888 and studied art both in his hometown and at Althin’s painting school in Stockholm from 1917. He continued his education through study trips to Norway, the Netherlands, France, and Spain. Borgman exhibited solo in cities such as Gävle, Borås, Västerås, and Örebro, and participated in numerous group exhibitions. His oeuvre includes figure compositions, scenes from Dalarna, urban motifs from Gävle, as well as woodcuts, commercial artwork, and illustrations. His work is represented in several notable public collections, including the Gothenburg Museum of Art, the Royal Library in Stockholm, and the art collections of Uppsala and Lund Universities.
