About the Item
The painting depicts a vibrant, sunlit coastal village in Rockport Massachusetts, set in the 20th Century, exuding a cheerful and nostalgic mood. The marine view of the Motif #1 docks and fishermen of the iconic fishing shack on Bearskin Neck located on Bradley Wharf in the harbor town of Rockport is scene in the distance. The bustling street is depicted with warmth, creating a lively feeling throughout. A young boy in a blue shirt and dark shorts pushes a wooden cart brimming with hay. A woman in a blue blouse and white skirt rides a bicycle nearby, we can almost hear the chime of her bell. A mother in a long skirt walks hand-in-hand with a small child, flowers blossom as the sea is filled with beautiful sails ready to be docked. This piece is signed lower right and comes housed in a wooden rope pattern decorative frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.

Carl Ivar Gilbert was born in 1882. He was active and lived in New York, New Hampshire. Gilbert is known for Landscape, still life, urban scenes, the Indian genre, and marine painting and he died in 1959.
