About the Item

California Canyon -- Cheeseboro Canyon in Southern California is a beautiful canyon surrounded by rolling hills and oak savannah. A historic ranch house was burned down in the massive 2017 Thomas Fire, but this painting of the canyon and ranch house structures predates the fire and preserves the memory of this live oak woodland. Fine artist Carole Garland explores the hills, valleys and stately oaks in this classical landscape in the tradition of the Southern California plein air painters. The path of light moves across the front of the painting, passes through the trees, and climbs up the hill in the background. The manner in which the light cuts through the two prominent oaks creates a dramatic foreground profile and emphasizes the importance of the central tree. This 18"x24" oil painting on canvas is wired for ease of hanging. Framed, the dimensions are 26"x31". Carole Garland studied painting at Knox College, Galesburg, Ill.; the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of the Americas in Mexico City. She did several plein air workshops including those with fine artists Frank Serrano, Calvin Liang, Jeff Horn and most recently studied with fine artist David Gallup, former vice president of the California Art Club. She has shown in venues all over Southern California and is in fine art collections throughout the United States.

MOUNTAINSCAPE #4
By Linda Jacobson
Located in Palm Desert, CA
The Mountainscape series has been inspired by Jacobsons stay in the Alpes-Maritime in a small medieval village, Fanghetto, on the Italian/French border. The colors are soft, flowing and ethereal, creating a feeling of harmony, and a sanctuary for healing. Jacobson creates her paintings with many layers of acrylic paint on canvas, giving her work a luminous and translucent quality. The pastel colors and flowing compositional elements express the spiritual essence of nature. Mountainscape #4 is a mixed-media painting of oil paint over acrylic washes on gallery wrapped linen canvas. Linda Jacobson's paintings are lyrical abstractions inspired by her love of landscape and its elements: form, movement, light, and what she perceives to be its essence an energy or quality that goes beyond visual appearance. Born in Los Angeles, she received her BFA from California State College, Northridge, and graduated Summa cum Laude from the prestigious Art Center College of Design where she was mentored by pioneer California modernist Lorser Feitelson. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad, including MRG Fine Art, in Los Angeles; Gallerie Rohling, Berlin, Germany; California State University Channel Islands in Ventura; Karpeles Museum in Santa Barbara, California; BG Gallery in Santa Monica; George Lawson...
