Abstracted Floral Oil Painting -- Magnolias in Morning Mist
Evocative and moody floral of pink saucer magnolias by California artist Carrie Clayden (American, b. 1973), 2016. The blue green mist framed by magnolias in hues of pink has a dream-like quality. It beckons the viewer to imagine a journey beginning or a secret garden begging to be explored. Titled "Alex Sleeping", this dreamy like image is unique in its use of negative space emphasized by the framing of branches of pink magnolia blooms. The resulting composition is balanced and layered.

Carrie Clayden is a native Californian, growing up in Los Gatos, Ca. She received her Bachelors of Arts from UCSC in 1995 and now resides in Santa Cruz, Ca. and Flagstaff, Az. Carrie’s work plays with light and motion in the same beat, her brushwork emphasizing the texture of the paint. Her loose and semi-abstracted style suggest structure but leaves the detail to the viewer, allowing for fresh interpretations of familiar forms.
