About the Item
A charming Impressionist winter snow-covered pastoral scene depicting the road to Lake Nockamixon in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. This piece is executed in an intimate yet energetic manner. Christopher is known for capturing the beauty and simplicity of an earlier time in the 20th century: old New York, families working together, villages, farms, and friends taking walks together. Many are depicted in recognizable historical settings, and this piece is an excellent example of this, as he captures the village on a peaceful winter's night. A moody and serene atmosphere where the warmth of the cozy interior golden light glows from the windows and doorways of the wooden homes. With thick, textured impasto brushstrokes and a dramatic palette of deep blues, cool greens, and warm accents of yellow-orange light against dark shadows, with bare trees framing the scene, their branches silhouetted against a deep indigo sky streaked with subtle hints of purple and pink near the horizon. The snow on the ground reflects cool blues and greens, creating a luminous, almost ethereal quality under the night sky. This piece is signed by the artist lower right and titled on verso, it comes housed in an antique gold tone wood carved frame and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.
