In the foreground, beneath large sails stretched out like canvases, fishermen and villagers bustle about, bringing life and movement to the scene. Further away, small boats dot the calm waters of the gulf, while the golden light of the sky is reflected on the bright facades of the city and the volcanic reliefs.
Carelli, a master of Italian Romantic landscape painting, masterfully captures the alliance between the picturesque daily life of the fishermen and the dramatic majesty of the volcano.
