About the Item
This painting was created in the peak of summer heat, at midday, on the North Shore of Oahu — in a place so dry and rugged that tourists rarely come here. Underfoot were sharp lava stones, the land was scorched and silent.
"This is not the Hawaii seen on postcards, and that’s exactly what drew me in.", said Daria about this artwork. "What struck me most were the sun-bleached, twisted tree trunks. Long dead, their roots still gripped the rock as if refusing to let go. Their white forms stood against the sky like bones weathered by time.
These are Hawaii’s raw edges — stripped down, almost desert-like, and deeply real. And yet, in the distance, a sailboat and a few small figures remind us that light and celebration are never far, even if just out of sight."
The painting is richly textured, especially in the foreground — in the stones and dried trees where I used a thick application of paint. The sky, by contrast, was painted with a light touch to balance the weight of the land.
It will look especially striking on a small wall in a wide frame that brings out the depth and character of the composition.
Daria Molostnova lives and works in Hawaii, where she discovered the true beauty of the surrounding world. Her paintings reflect the local reality, expressed through her personal cultural code. A graduate of the Russian State University of Design and Applied Arts named Stroganoff, she earned her master's degree, blending the traditions of classical education with a contemporary artistic perspective.
Daria grew up in a family of professional artists, her mother being a renowned designer and lead doll artist of the Soviet Union. Since 1997, Daria has been a member of the Moscow Union of Artists, and since 1998, a member of the International Union of Journalists.
She has taught at the Russian-Italian Art School Perotti and the Correspondence People's University of Arts. She has conducted numerous workshops both in Russia and abroad, as well as team-building activities for companies such as Harpers Bazaar, Mercedes, and Coca-Cola.
Daria has participated in international artist residencies in such countries as Bosnia, France, and Italy. She is a participant in many Russian and international art fairs, competitions, and exhibitions. Currently, she collaborates with galleries in Hawaii and California.
Her works are held in several Russian museums, as well as in private collections both in Russia and abroad.
Daria's paintings are a fusion of flawless craftsmanship and a vivid sense of life that her work conveys. The inspiration and light embedded in her paintings will stay with you if you become their owner.
